November 1, 2016. Roswell, GA. The Georgia Department of Education recently recognized Centennial High School as one of a handful in the state now offering the new, prestigious diploma seal in International Skills. Less than 7 percent of the 956 Georgia high schools currently offer this seal to graduating seniors.

The International Skills Diploma Seal is awarded to students who complete an international education curriculum and engage in extracurricular activities and experiences that foster the achievement of global competencies. It is a signal to employers and higher education institutions that a student is prepared to participate in the global economy. In order to qualify, students need to complete coursework in world languages and classes with an international focus, conduct a minimum of 20 hours of community service involving a global / cross-cultural public service project, participate in at least four extracurricular activities and experiences with global themes and / or in global contexts and prepare and present a capstone presentation on the knowledge gained in the courses and activities to a panel of community leaders.

The Georgia DOE began the program to address the critical need for international skills and language capability in Georgia, as the numbers of international companies based in the state continue to grow.

“We are pleased to be one of the first to offer this new distinction to graduating students,” said Kibbey Crumbley, Principal of Centennial High School. “It is fantastic to have an official recognition for what Centennial has offered students for some time now. We are very proud of the broad international education program we provide.”

Centennial is also on its way to becoming the only high school in the Fulton County Northeast Learning Community to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and to become an IB World school. It is anticipated that students in the graduating class of 2020 could begin taking the program in 2018.

The school is a leader in the nation with its Model UN program and the only school in Georgia named in the Top 150 Model UN programs.

As far as world language education, Centennial High School offers in-house courses for French, Spanish and German and through Fulton Virtual for Japanese, Chinese and Latin. The school also offers a robust foreign exchange program.

Centennial High School is a 21st century learning community providing a high quality, innovative educational experience for all students to be college and career ready. Located at 9310 Scott Road in Roswell, Georgia, the school has been ranked as one of America’s best high schools by The Washington Post, US News and World Report, and Atlanta Magazine.
