AT
Centennial
High:
The
CATCH
program is an innovative way of bringing health and safety
related topics to the students at a time that is convenient –
during lunch! Students may sign up on a first-come basis and
enjoy their usual lunch period in the casual, intimate setting
of the Auditorium lobby. Nutritious lunches are purchased by the
PTSA and served buffet style.
CATCH
speakers are professionals in their fields and discuss subjects
that are relevant to teens. If you would like to help out – or
have ideas for speakers or topics – please let us know! We
generally hold two luncheons per semester, on a Thursday.
Red Ribbon
Week:
This is an annual event, scheduled to coincide with the National
PTA and Georgia PTA
Red Ribbon Week
campaigns in October. Many of you will be familiar with this
anti-drug program from middle school. However, high school is
the time when our efforts seem particularly relevant. The
committee builds awareness about substance abuse by distributing
red
ribbons
& pledge cards, decorating the school, making daily
announcements, and even handing out treats at lunch. It’s an
important message, so please join us!
PROM PROMISE
/ FATAL VISION:
These programs target students who are attending Prom or other
special events. We coordinate a week-long campaign to highlight
the dangers of drinking and driving, often utilizing the time
and talents of student groups, such as Student Council and
Skills USA. Fatal
Vision
is a program which allows would-be drivers to experience the
effects of driving under the influence by wearing specially
designed goggles. PTSA volunteers work with community
groups as well as the Roswell Police Department to complete the
Fatal Vision experience. Posters, pledge
cards, prize drawings and official
Prom Promise
giveaways help to make this a ‘sober’ yet exciting week!
CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL WELLNESS POLICY:
Centennial’s PTSA Wellness Policy was written in 2005, just
before it was mandated by state law that school systems
implement a “Wellness Policy”. The Fulton County School’s
nutrition department has used Centennial’s policy as a starting
point, and 2007-2008 marked the beginning of implementation of
the Fulton County Schools’ Wellness Initiative with Centennial
as a pilot school for that program. |
